Any Questions?

Mae Adam Price, AS Plaid ar rhaglen Radio 4 y BBC 'Any Questions?' heno yn fyw o Mumbles am 8 yr hwyr. Y pobl eraill ar y panel yw Cheryl Gillan, Peter Hain a Lembit Opik. Dylse fe fod yn drafodaeth ddiddorol felly. Cofiwch wrando! Pa mor sicr ydyw y bydd y Cheeky Girls yn cael ei drafod?...

Adam Price, Plaid MP is on the Radio 4 BBC programme 'Any Questions?' tonight which is live from Mumbles at 8pm. The other politicians on the panel are Cheryl Gillan, Peter Hain and Lembit Opik. Should be an interesting one. How sure can I be that the Cheeky Girls will be mentioned...?

You're probably too young to remember Hughie Green's clapometer, Bethan. It was a machine used to measure the audience reaction on a talent show.
If there was a clapometer on tonight's Any Questions, I think that Adam would have won by a wide margin.

Poor Peter Hain was out classed by all three panellists and the gasps of disbelief that were audible from the audience when he tried to justify Welsh Labour's record in the Assemble spoke volumes.

not to appear bias, but Adam was the best speaker by far! We got Hain on Neurosurgery and the Assembly record. Plaid couldn't have hoped for a better groan from the audience when Hain opened his mouth! Great stuff.

But as Hughie said "It's your votes that count" ;-)

I think Adam Price is easily Plaid's best MP. He hit the ground running when he was first elected in 2001 and had done tremendously well at hounding the government over Iraq.

That was why I was surprised that he let Peter Hain hector him a couple of times and didn't come back at him quicker. When Peter Hain started his "well, do you want to withdraw the troops straight away and leave them to the insurgents" routine, I thought he should have pointed out that the forces don't even have full control of the green zone, as was demonstrated by the suicide bomber in the Iraqi parliament and ethnic cleansing carries also on apace in Baghdad unhindered by the authorities. For ordinary Iraqis there is no stability.

But the hectoring seemed to eventually work against Peter Hain. The noise from the crowd suggested that people were getting irritated, and when he said Swansea was better, he gave the audience their cue.

We also saw Peter the shape-shifter in action. He's wants neurosurgery retained at Morriston, but it's a devolved issue so out of his hands. Whereas Labour not being allowed to go into coalition with Plaid in the assembly isn't ? Perhaps he should give his AM a call and see what she can do ?

Incidently, I notice from Gwenda Thomas' leaflet that she pledges to "continue to campaign on issues such as retaining neurosurgery at Morriston Hospital" Erm....who's been in government for 8 years? In the words of a leading sportwear manufacturer - Just do it!

The programme definately needed an Arsembly commentary. But I believe he's lying in a darkened room after Thursday's session :-)

This from the Evening Post... Hain doesn't want to make a comment on Neurosurgery as it isn't a Whitehall issue. Makes a change.

Mr Hain refused to be drawn on whether his Labour colleague, Assembly First Minister Rhodri Morgan had told him whether neurosurgery would remain at Morriston.

The Neath MP has previously supported the Post's campaign to keep the service in Swansea rather than see it moved to Cardiff.

But he said: "It is not a decision for the Whitehall government to make. This is a matter for Rhodri Morgan and the Welsh Assembly."

It only makes you think the decision has already been made. If Hain has previously supported the campaign why would he not commit now, unless Labour have already made the decision to switch it to Cardiff.

It is clear that only a vote for Plaid will garantee a candidate that is committed to retaining neurosurgery in Swansea.
